Our Priorities
Three fronts where Pennsylvania's healthcare system needs defending — and where PA CFP is doing the work.
Protect critical health services for women & children
- 6 counties in PA are maternal deserts — offering no access to maternal care — and 10 others are considered low maternal access
- 42 hospitals have been forced to close labor and delivery units, limiting vital access for expecting mothers
- 47% of rural women live more than 30 minutes from the nearest hospital — and every second counts
PA CFP is working to increase and restore desperately needed access to maternal care across the state.
Defend our health providers
- 25 PA hospitals have closed in the past 10 years
- 9 counties have no acute care; 14 more have only 1 acute care hospital
- Rural healthcare is the keystone for strong communities — rural PA hospitals support 69,500 jobs

Build a strong healthcare workforce
- PA faces a nursing shortage that adversely affects patient care
- PA is losing specialty doctors to other states because of uncompetitive and overburdensome litigation and insurance requirements
